What role does your organization play in the community?
The San Mateo County Parks Foundation’s mission is to inspire people to care for, learn about and enjoy parks. We are a nonprofit partner to the San Mateo County Parks Department and support the 24 parks, historic sites and trails that make up our county parks system. We support programs, projects and people to ensure our county parks are accessible, welcoming, and enjoyable for all.
Why are you a sponsor of Soul Stroll?
Soul Stroll takes place at Coyote Point, one of your county parks, and spending time in nature is good for our physical, mental, and emotional health. Whether you are going for a hike, gathering with friends, or simply sitting on a bench listening to birds, you are doing your body, mind, and soul good. Medical research estimates that 75%-90% of illness and disease (dis-ease) is stress-related, so we invite everyone to visit a park and unwind. These are your county parks and the San Mateo County Parks Foundation wants people to feel welcome in and enjoy the benefits of time well-spent in nature.
Anything else you'd like to share about Soul Stroll or BACHAC?
We are a proud sponsor of Soul Stroll and the work BACHAC does in the community. Eliminating health disparities across generations and diverse communities is a worthy goal and it does take a village. The San Mateo County Parks Foundation wants to be a part of that village, highlighting our wonderful park system and how being in a park can make one feel better. We want everyone to feel good and healthy and be able to live up to their full potential.
