The central principle of UMOJA-San Mateo is the “FUBU” principle, which is ‘For Us, By Us”. This is a grassroots, community effort for health in East Palo Alto, Belle Haven, Menlo Park and North Fair Oaks, Redwood City, and San Mateo County. These regions have been among the hardest hit in terms of the COVID-19 pandemic with high rates and low vaccination. Umoja Health will be expanding to other parts of San Mateo.

UMOJA has become a force for change. This coalition brings together community dialogues each week at 5pm on Monday evenings. Partners from the community (actual community members who live in the neighborhoods, community-based organizations, health care practitioners, pastors and church members, and officials participate, each voice is heard. By working together in community, we address disparities for African American, Asian Pacific Islander, LatinX and other communities of color.

If you would like to sign up for a dialogue, please add your name to this list: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/19iZq-UcZZ6l4eoayhdduTlljKwtoODQN4WBNuTg3evA/edit#gid=0
