Statement in Support of Sunny Hostin
The Bay Area Community Health Advisory Council (BACHAC) a grass roots community health based organization is writing this letter to voice our support of The View’s Co-host, Sunny Hostin, as she manages the pain and suffering from alleged racist comments made about her from an ABC Executive. We appreciate the swift action and investigation that will take place to reveal the truth.
However, regardless if true or not, Sunny is already hurt, suffering and bearing a burden from the virus of hatred towards African Americans in this country. The recent murder of George Floyd and the uprising against racism and discrimination is a testament to the intolerance of this hatred. People around the world have recognized that African Americans have suffered for over 400 years and it must stop!
Our hope is that Disney and ABC reflect, learn and act on what is needed beyond this incident in and do everything possible to promote a diverse, inclusive and equitable work place and community. You have the influence and the obligation to drive out the evils of discrimination and racism. It starts with the leadership and your commitment, your example, your voice and resources can drive this change.
We are honored to have Sunny Hostin as our honorary chair for Soul Stroll 2020: The Movement, Oct. 3, 2020 (www.mysoulstroll.com). She is admired and an inspiration by people all over this world and she is a symbol and reflection of humanity, strength, intellect and beauty. She is the ideal person to represent our values of wellness and justice for all. For 25 years, BACHAC has and will continue to eliminate health and justice disparities. We offer ourselves as a resource to support Sunny and/or your organizations on this issue. It will take all of us to build a world where Black Lives Matter.
